Finding the Area of a polygon

1. Identify the properties of the polygon
~does the polygon have parallel sides? If so, how many?
~how many sides does the polygon have?
~does the polygon have any right angles?

2. Separate polygon into the fewest number of rectangles/squares and triangles as possible
~create and label right angles

3. Find the area of each of the separate pieces using our formulas for rectangles and triangles
Triangle area = (L x W)/2
Rectangle area = L x W

  2. Ms.Miller,

Hi it's Maddy! I just got back from Hawaii and was confused on this piece of information. I was wondering if this was something you're supposed to do at home or just for future reference.

    Thanks,
    Maddy
